Around 50,000 People Used the Free Bus Service During the Khmer New Year

PHNOM PENH: Tens of thousands of people utilized the free public bus service to travel to their hometowns and visit other provinces during the Khmer New Year.

Phnom Penh Municipal Administration Spokesperson Met Meas Pheakdey told EAC News that about 50,000 people used the state-organized public bus service during the Khmer New Year to travel from Phnom Penh to various other provinces and back.

The Spokesperson also shared that the bus lane on National Road No. 6 had the highest number of travelling passengers, with up to 20,000 people, because the road passes through the provinces of Kampong Thom and Siem Reap.

The Phnom Penh Capital Administration prepared 345 buses to transport people to the provinces for free for five days from 13 to 17 April 2023. This service was organized to help reduce the travel costs of people visiting their hometowns during the Khmer New Year.

Phnom Penh Governor, Khuong Sreng, affirmed during an interview with reporters at the Russey Keo Park bus station on 13 April that the free bus service was intended to help reduce costs for the people.
